Looking for a volunteer opportunity? Love the Newburgh Museum? Want to make new friends? Then consider becoming a docent or volunteer!
All Docents must be 18+ years old and pass a criminal background check. Younger than 18 years? Ask us about Youth Program Opportunities!

Docents –
- Lead exhibit tours and educational programs for children and adults
- Learn more about the Museum’s collections
- Have access to special learning opportunities
- Make life-long friends
- No experience in education is necessary
- All Docents receive comprehensive training before leading their first tour.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist visitors to museum one business day per month on a Fri or Sat 12 pm–4 pm or Sun 1 pm–3 pm
- Assist with annual Elementary School tours in fall and spring.
- Assist periodically with small adult group tours to museum.
- Assist with various fundraising events (Spring Market, Yard Sale, Christkindlmarkt).
- Help set up/tear down exhibits
- Help with occasional light cleaning of museum display cases
- Carpenter work and artistic arrangement of exhibits

Major Event List:
- Spring Market – March Spring Break, Friday – Saturday from 9am-4pm
- Community Yard Sale – 2nd Weekend of June, Thursday – Saturday from 7am-3pm
- Christkindlmarkt – Saturday before Thanksgiving
- Monthly Educational Programming
Walking Tour Guides –
Help with school, group, and community tours. All guides will receive training prior to first tour.
Qualifications:
- Available WEEKDAYS Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm AS NEEDED for scheduled tours
- Able to walk up to 1 mile with period stops at historic sites
- Public speaking up to 2 hours
- Passion and interest in local history
Offered Walking Tours:
- State Street Walking Tour – 60/120 minutes
- *NEW* African American Cemetery Tour – 30/60 minutes
- *NEW* Newburgh Time Travel Walking Tour – 30/60 minutes
